Hi, it's Mich from Cultivating Charisma here! 👋😃 Welcome to your Charisma Missive, where I send you tips on charisma and communication, all designed to help you boost confidence, craft your character, and amplify connection. Enjoy, and thank you for reading! Years ago before covid was even a thing, an artiste I really liked came to Singapore to host a mini concert and a meet&greet after. I haven’t told anyone, but it was Lara Liang Veronin 🫣 She was part of a popular Taiwanese mandopop group affiliated with Jay Chou in the 2000s. I’m telling you this because, if you're reading this, you’re part of my insider group now, no point being ashamed here hahah! Anyway, I bumped into her and the whole gang having supper at Toast Box. Very local hor, how down to earth of her. Without even thinking, I just blurted her name out loud, in public, just loud enough that they turned and stared at whoever dared call a celebrity’s name uninvited. I wanted to slap myself, hide behind a pillar out of sight, and then slap myself again. Thankfully, I’ve learned since then to be ready with my First Sentence every time I meet someone important, or go to any event where interaction is to be expected. That way, I won’t embarrass myself the way I did so many years ago. Luckily for you, you don’t have to ever embarrass yourself like this. You will be prepared. You will have your First Sentence ready. This Saturday during Charisma Class, we’re going deeper into what the First Sentence Principle is. Simply put, it's a framework you can just plug-and-play for all the different scenarios where you might need to introduce yourself. And this is just ONE of the many things we'll go through. Tickets are still live, and I'll be very happy to have you! Don’t worry, I won’t embarrass myself during class by blurting out your name. So you're very welcome to join us. Either way, thank you for being here. I appreciate your readership. Mich P.S. Do you have a similar encounter? Feel free to Reply to share your grievances with me. If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out too. I read every response. |
Welcome to your Weekly Charisma Missive 🟠 A newsletter where I write about charisma, communication, along with actionable tips to boost confidence, craft your character, or amplify connection. I'm thrilled to have you here.
Yesterday, I took a nap at 9am woke up around 2pm for lunch. Before you judge, I've been staying up the past few nights, working on something exciting for you. More details at the end of this email. “You look like you just woke up.” the aunty at my usual noodle stall remarked, nonchalant. I looked back at her, blinking, with a blank look on my face 😳 “Oh.. oh yeah I uh worked late last night..” I mumbled sheepishly. Dang! I cursed myself internally. It must be the sleepy look I was wearing....
“What’s your number?” I asked innocently. She hesitated, looking back at me with the 🤨 look. Suspicious. “Are you (First Name + Last Name)?” I switched tactics. “Oh yes,” she answers, still with raised eyebrows. “Awesome, here you go!” I handed her the pack of coffee beans she ordered for delivery to be picked up at our outlet. It wasn’t until she was out of sight, that it dawned on me why she looked to sus. Was she… No way… Did she really think..? Oh dear… Was she wondering why I was ASKING...
Yup… that and people screw up sometimes. And I sure darn screwed up this time! When I left my healthcare job in October last year, I was so sure my writing output would go from 1 to 100. Surely, with all the time I have now on my hand, I’ll write tonnes and tonnes of words daily, right? WRONG. I was so wrong. Between juggling life and self doubt and taking care of my mental wellbeing, I totally dropped the ball of daily writing. As a result, my writing muscle and connections and, ironically,...
